In an announcement earlier today, Tom aka “Spinner” from DivX, Inc., the company behind Stage6, posted a notice on the website telling users that the service will be shut down on February 28. The reason cited was that the website is becoming too expensive to maintain. Stage6 is a website similar to the famous YouTube, but Stage6 videos are encrypted with the DivX codec and are of much higher quality. This will be a disappointment to many users as there are hundreds of useful documentaries and videos of high intellectual and entertainment value.
