Free 411 by Google
My last cell phone bill had about $5 in 411 charges from just one day. On this particular day, me and my friend got stuck on one of the Florida Keys with the keys inside the car. We used 411 to call every locksmith and towing service available. When, none of this worked, we got help from some friendly Hispanics that seemed to know what they were doing. I could have saved those $5 to buy half of a drink when I go clubbing next weekend and now you can too.
Google has a free 411 service available. The number is 1-800-GOOG-411. Easy to remember right? Well, save it to your phonebook just in case.
Jump to find out more and to find out about Google 411 text.
This free service is automated but the computer seems to understand what I am saying most of the time. You also get transfered for free, and have to ability to receive a text message with the information by saying “text message.”
When asked for the city you can say the city name, say the zip code, or type the zip code in to the key pad. After that you can just say what it asks or press one and then type in what you want.
Pretty handy, huh?
Google text is just as useful. What you do is send a text message to “GOOGL” (or 46645 ) with your zip code and what you are looking for. Here are two example text messages:
33131 Bank of America
02215 Chinese restaurant
Have fun with it.
